Sheronne Vails started 28 games for the University of Louisville women’s basketball team last season.
But U of L coach Jeff Walz told Cardinal Authority on Monday morning that Vails’ status for the upcoming season is in question after she underwent knee surgery about two months ago.
”We’re unsure,” Walz said of Vails’ availability. “It depends on how she progresses. We’re not sure if we will redshirt her or not.”
The 6-foot-4 Vails is the latest in a long line of injuries for the Cardinals, who have Tia Gibbs and Asia Taylor both back full-go with the team, according to Walz. Both players missed all of last season with injuries.
Walz also said Shawnta’ Dyer is “on schedule” in her rehab after knee surgery. Dyer played in 11 games before going down with an injury.
Vails averaged 15.6 minutes a game in 37 games last season, averaging 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds a game. She led the Cardinals with 34 blocked shots.
Walz also confirmed that Davionna Holmes, who joined the team in the middle of last season after coming to U of L as a volleyball player, has left the team.
”We wish her the best,” Walz said. “She’s in the process of looking for another school where she can transfer too.”
